Professor Park Sewan of Gyeongnam National University Receives the 20th Friendly East Asian History Paper Award

Professor Park Sewan, a research professor at the Goun Institute of Kyungnam University, received the 20th Uhwo Oriental History Paper Award from the Oriental History Society for his paper "The Mobilization System of the Jin Dynasty and Changes in the Northern Defense Posture."

This award was established with a fund of 50 million won donated by the late Professor Jeon Haejong, the founding and third president of the Oriental History Society and an emeritus professor at Sogang University. To encourage research enthusiasm among young scholars and attract excellent papers, two outstanding papers published in the journal "Dongyang Sahak Yeongu" during the year are selected and awarded.

Last September, Professor Park published the paper "The Mobilization System of the Jin Dynasty and Changes in the Northern Defense Posture" in issue 168 of "Dongyang Sahak Yeongu." The paper identifies that the reason for the fall of the Jin Dynasty to Genghis Khan's invasion was the vulnerability of its unique military mobilization system, and also reveals that the northern defense system established to compensate for this weakness was collapsing as well.
