Gwangju City announced on the 5th that it is publicly recruiting candidates for the "38th Gwangju Citizen Award."

The Citizen Award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and honor of Gwangju City. Since 1987, one person has been selected in each of five fields: social service, academia, culture and arts, sports, and regional economic promotion. To date, a total of 169 individuals (or organizations) have received the honor of the Citizen Award.

However, starting this year, instead of selecting one person in each of the five fields, only one individual with the most outstanding achievements will be chosen. In addition, on-site investigations have been added to strengthen the verification of candidates' achievements.

Citizen Award candidates must have lived in Gwangju for at least three years as of the city's official announcement date (February 28) and have made contributions to the city's honor and development. They can be recommended by the head of any institution, the head of a social organization, or by a joint recommendation from at least 20 citizens. Applications will be accepted from the 7th to April 3rd, and can be submitted in person to the Gwangju City Autonomous Administration Division, or via mail or email.

Jung Wonseok, Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau, said, "The Citizen Award is the most prestigious award in our city, and starting this year, we will select the very best individual. We hope that citizens will show great interest and recommend exemplary individuals."
