KOSPI Gains Over 1% Supported by Net Buying from Institutions and Individuals... Settles Above 2550 Level Yonhap News

The KOSPI index rose by over 1%, supported by net buying from institutions and individuals.


On the 5th, the KOSPI index closed at 2558.13, up 29.21 points (1.16%) from the previous day. The trading volume for the day was 562.8 million shares, with a trading value tentatively estimated at 12.8354 trillion KRW.


By investor type, institutions and individuals net bought 47.9 billion KRW and 92.6 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners net sold 227.5 billion KRW. Program trading saw net selling of 75.4 billion KRW in arbitrage trading and 18.5 billion KRW in non-arbitrage trading.


Most sectors rose. The construction sector surged 5.1%, electricity and gas 4.78%, machinery and equipment 3.85%, distribution 3.19%, transportation and warehousing 2.44%, chemicals 2.25%, metals 1.88%, textiles and apparel 1.75%, non-metallic minerals 1.7%, pharmaceuticals 1.61%, IT services 1.61%, medical precision 1.34%, manufacturing 1.14%, and transportation equipment 0.87%. Meanwhile, the securities sector fell 0.55%.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks also rose. SK Hynix increased by 3.76%, Samsung Biologics 2.05%, LG Energy Solution 0.6%, Hyundai Motor 2.31%, Celltrion 0.65%, Kia 2.79%, NAVER 0.97%, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 0.79%. Conversely, Samsung Electronics fell 0.92%, Hanwha Aerospace -0.86%, KB Financial -1.67%, and Hanwha Ocean -5.41% closed weaker.


The number of rising stocks was 716, declining stocks were 180, and 43 stocks remained unchanged. Two stocks hit the upper price limit.


The KOSDAQ index also showed a rise of over 1%. On the day, the KOSDAQ index closed at 746.95, up 9.05 points (1.23%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners net bought 11.1 billion KRW and 65.5 billion KRW respectively, while individuals net sold 61.7 billion KRW.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks rose. Alteogen increased by 3.5%, EcoPro BM 0.71%, EcoPro 1.38%, Rainbow Robotics 1.45%, Samchundang Pharmaceuticals 6.22%, Ligachem Bio 1.49%, Hugel 0.96%, PharmaResearch 1.12%, and Kolon TissueGene 4.11%. Meanwhile, HLB fell 0.11%, and Classys also closed weaker by 0.35%.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the KRW/USD exchange rate traded at 1453.3 KRW, down 7.0 KRW from the previous day.
