Vows Consistent Pursuit of Former Superintendent's Education Policies Focused on Academic Achievement

Choi Yoon-hong, former Acting Superintendent of Busan Education Office, has announced his candidacy for the Busan Superintendent of Education by-election.

Candidate Choi made his declaration at 11 a.m. on the 5th at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Academic Development Center. He said, “As the Deputy Superintendent, I served as the Acting Superintendent of Education, and I resigned from the Deputy Superintendent position to run in this by-election with a resolute determination.”

Candidate Choi pointed out, “Before the previous superintendent took office, Busan education was trapped for several years within a specific ideological framework, causing much confusion. Schools should fundamentally nurture students' academic abilities and character, but due to opaque education and downward leveling, students’ competitiveness declined, and neglect of character education and the decline of teachers’ authority caused the school environment to be engulfed in conflicts and turmoil.”

He continued, “When the former superintendent took office, he put an end to this confusion and implemented education policies faithful to the school’s original role of improving academic achievement and strengthening character education, giving us all great expectations and hope. However, with the former superintendent’s early departure, the crisis in Busan education, which was regaining its footing, has intensified again, and many people are worried about the future of Busan education.”

Candidate Choi stated, “I intend to respond to the demands of many Busan citizens and education families who want the previous superintendent’s education policies to be pursued continuously and consistently,” and revealed his education policy direction.

He announced that he would follow the policy direction of the previous superintendent and present the policy direction for Busan education.

His first pledge is to further advance public education to improve students’ academic achievement. Second, he emphasized strengthening students’ character education and health education. The third pledge is to expand education specialized for the local community and future society to cultivate customized talents.

Fourth, he promised to do his best to establish a school safety net. Fifth, he pledged to expand educational welfare to reduce educational disparities between regions and social classes and to realize equal educational opportunities. Sixth, he aims to build an education system where the education community actively participates in all processes of planning, executing, and evaluating important education policies, fostering communication and cooperation.

Candidate Choi said, “As an education policy expert, I will focus solely on children’s education,” and added, “Based on 35 years of experience handling education policies at the Ministry of Education, education offices, and universities, I will dedicate myself to providing proper education for the children of Busan.”
