Jeon Han-gil, a Korean history instructor who expressed opposition to the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol, defended former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon by saying, "Everyone makes mistakes."
On the 4th, Jeon appeared on Channel A's radio show 'Political Signal' and claimed, "The public believes that one of the reasons President Yoon is now imprisoned in a detention center is because pro-Yoon factions, including former leader Han, supported it. This is a fact."
However, Jeon said, "Like me, everyone makes mistakes," adding, "What’s important is to reflect, admit the mistake, and ask for forgiveness." He continued, "For the conservative forces to maintain long-term power or seize authority, they must unite as one," and said, "Just as children born from the same mother have different grades, various voices can be raised within the conservative camp." He expressed, "Regarding this, I am somewhat grateful to former leader Han," explaining, "Because I felt that people were not supporting Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, and were coming back again."
He also emphasized the impeachment trial result of President Yoon by saying, "I am 100% certain it will be dismissed," and added, "This trial is extremely important as it will determine whether South Korea progresses or collapses, whether the people become divided or united, and whether the Constitutional Court can continue to exist." He continued, "This is different from the impeachment acceptance during the Park Geun-hye administration. At that time, 90% of the public wanted impeachment," and said, "Now, President Yoon’s approval rating is over 50%, and more than 50% of the public believe that the eight justices are neither fair nor politically neutral."
Meanwhile, former leader Han said in an interview with TV Chosun the previous day, "I have gone through many years with President Yoon," and "During that time, when the president was in difficulty and when I was in difficulty, we relied on each other and have many good memories." He added, "I truly hoped this government would succeed," and said, "I feel sorry. There is also a painful aspect to the current situation. However, the regret is that many people, not just me, should have spoken frankly and tried to correct the problems."
He addressed those attending the anti-impeachment rallies for President Yoon, saying, "I want to express my deep apologies and gratitude to those who came out to the square," and added, "They think with the mindset that the most dangerous person in South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, must be stopped from ruining the country." He continued, "If we unite with that mindset going forward, Leader Lee will never be able to win this election."
