The Venice Biennale is one of the world's largest biennials, alternating between art exhibitions in even-numbered years and architecture exhibitions in odd-numbered years. At the election meeting held on November 5, 2024, the Venice Biennale organizing committee selected Koyo Kouoh, the chief director of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town, South Africa, as the artistic director for the 61st International Art Exhibition. The exhibition schedule and theme have not yet been announced, and the event is expected to be held in the Castello Park and Arsenale area of Venice, Italy.
