Gwangju City has set this year's local tax revenue collection target at 2.6225 trillion won, a 5.49% increase compared to last year, and is making every effort to secure revenue.
According to Gwangju City on the 28th, the '2025 Local Tax Administration Operation Plan Sharing City-District Tax Department Heads Meeting' was held the previous afternoon in the city hall seminar room, attended by Gwangju City and the heads of tax departments from the five autonomous districts. During the meeting, the direction for tax administration to achieve this year's local tax collection target was shared.
This year's local tax revenue target is a total of 2.6225 trillion won. Of this, Gwangju City's share is 2.0225 trillion won, and the autonomous districts' share is 420 billion won. Achieving the local tax revenue target is challenging due to the deepening contraction in consumer sentiment and political instability since the end of last year, but the city and the autonomous districts plan to do their utmost to achieve the collection target through close cooperation.
The city has established a revenue increase plan to ensure fair local taxation and achieve this year's collection target. Specifically, it plans to strengthen monitoring of local tax collection trends, impose acquisition tax on unreported cases, reinforce and expedite the collection of delinquent local taxes, continue tax audits to uncover hidden tax sources, conduct comprehensive reviews of vulnerable areas such as local tax reductions, and systematically manage non-tax revenue collection.
During the meeting, measures to increase the collection rate and discover new tax sources were also discussed. Opinions were exchanged on improving general tax administration, such as notifying local tax delinquents via KakaoTalk, and enhancing incentives for autonomous districts that excel in revenue increase.
The city will operate a free tax agent selection system for local tax appeals to protect taxpayer rights. In addition, the city will continue the talent donation tax consultation system with 46 village tax accountants for citizens, including small taxpayers, and will expand benefits for exemplary taxpayers, such as free use of public parking lots and preferential financial support. The city also plans to distribute easy-to-understand local tax guidebooks and operate taxpayer support systems, such as the mobile electronic delivery system for local taxes, to foster a culture of faithful tax payment.
Kim Daejeong, head of the Taxation Division, said, "We will strengthen tax administration solidarity, including collaboration between the city and autonomous districts, to overcome the difficult tax revenue environment," and added, "We will do our best to achieve this year's local tax collection target."
