Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Operates 724 Free Job Training Programs for Career-Interrupted Women

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 27th that it will operate 724 free vocational training courses this year to support the reemployment of more than 13,000 women with career interruptions.

The ministry plans to expand training related to new technologies in promising future fields at 159 Women New Employment Centers nationwide and develop and operate training based on key industries in each region.

Starting this year, to reduce the economic burden on trainees and allow them to focus on training, a 'New Employment Center Vocational Training Participation Incentive Allowance' of 100,000 KRW per month will be paid up to four times.

Vocational training will be operated with a total of 724 courses, including ▲93 high value-added courses ▲138 company-customized (employment-linked) courses ▲85 specialized technical courses ▲64 entrepreneurship courses ▲338 general courses ▲6 local government key industry courses.

Cooperation with related organizations will also be strengthened, such as promoting the 'multi-ministry collaborative employment support' project that links female job seekers participating in vocational training projects of nine ministries including the Ministry of Employment and Labor with employment support services of the New Employment Centers. In addition, collaboration with institutions possessing excellent online educational content (such as the Small and Medium Business Corporation Training Center and the e-Learning Association) will be actively introduced to operate blended online and offline courses that improve accessibility for women with career interruptions. Furthermore, support will be provided so that New Employment Centers, local governments, and regional job research institutions can collaborate by province to develop high value-added vocational training for nurturing talent in key regional industries.

Those selected as trainees at the New Employment Centers will receive integrated employment support services including vocational training, employment counseling, work experience (internship), employment linkage, and follow-up management.

The entire course operation can be checked on the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family website, and applications for training participation can be made through the representative phone number of the New Employment Centers nationwide. From mid-March, applications will also be available on the New Employment Center website.

Shin Young-sook, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, said, "The New Employment Center vocational training is a policy that acts as a stepping stone for women with career interruptions to advance to better jobs. We will expand vocational training in promising future fields to enhance the professionalism of training and strengthen cooperation with related organizations to enable practical employment. At the same time, we will also strive to strengthen support for preventing career interruptions and promote a culture of work-family balance so that women can maintain their careers."
