Minister Yoon In-chon: "Full Effort to Revitalize Domestic Tourism for Domestic Economy"

National Travel Campaign Launch Ceremony for Regional Tourism Revitalization
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Promote "Traveling Spring" Campaign from March to May

"This year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's goal is to somehow retain those who are going abroad. We will make every effort to revitalize the domestic economy and domestic tourism in cooperation with related organizations such as the Korea Tourism Organization and local governments nationwide."

On the 27th, Minister Yoo In-chon of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized at the 'National Travel Campaign Launch Ceremony for Regional Tourism Revitalization' held at High Ground in Jung-gu, Seoul, that this year they will activate domestic tourism to contribute to the recovery of the domestic economy.

As the demand for overseas travel by citizens increases and the domestic economy stagnates for a long time, the domestic tourism industry is facing a crisis. Accordingly, the Ministry plans to carry out the 'Traveling Spring Campaign' for three months from March to May. They will provide benefits such as accommodation coupons and travel discounts to vigorously revitalize the domestic tourism industry. In particular, the 'Good Month for Travel' campaign, which was implemented in May last year, will be advanced to March this year.

Minister Yoo said, "In March, meaningful local festivals such as the Tongyeong International Music Festival, Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, and Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival begin," adding, "We are carefully reviewing and improving everything that can be serviced, such as transportation, to make people want to travel."

The Ministry also plans to promote the 'Walking Travel Week' in April and the 'Marine Tourism Campaign' in May. In May, especially, the coastal cruise project jointly prepared by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will begin.

Minister Yoo said, "I hope the coastal cruise project starting this year will be activated in some way and that various programs will be developed to enjoy cruise travel such as first birthday parties and 60th birthday celebrations on cruises." He added, "Our coastal areas, especially the Namhaean archipelago, are natural tourist destinations with a pristine environment that can compete anywhere in the world," and "I hope these become well known to people worldwide."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plan to attract 1 million cruise tourists annually to Korea by 2027 and increase tourist spending to 279.1 billion won per year.

Finally, Minister Yoo stated that he will devote efforts to revitalizing travel in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, which suffered a severe blow due to the Jeju Air passenger plane accident at Muan Airport last December.

He said, "The travel industry in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region is currently in a very difficult state, and the aftereffects are severe," adding, "We will pay close attention so that citizens can visit the Gwangju-Jeonnam region a lot during the travel months to overcome this as quickly as possible."
