Promotion of Public-Private Projects for Marine Leisure Tourism
Buan County in North Jeolla Province has been selected for the Type 1 project of the 2025 Fishing Village New Vitalization Promotion Project, organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, securing a total project budget of 30 billion KRW.
According to the county on the 27th, the selected Type 1 project aims to establish a dynamic economic hub, or a fishing village economic platform, which will serve as the center of the fishing village economy and daily life through financial support and the inducement of private investment.
The county applied for the project with the goal of sustainable development and economic revitalization of the Gung hang marina port and the national fishing port of Gyeokpo hang, and was selected. Based on this selection, the county plans to promote various public-private partnership projects related to marine leisure tourism by linking the private investment projects of Gung hang marina port and Gyeokpo hang.
The county expects that developing the areas around Gung hang marina port and Gyeokpo hang as a hub for the Pan-Asian cruise marine tourism industry will create various synergy effects, such as revitalizing the local economy and generating employment opportunities for local residents.
County Governor Kwon Ikhyeon said, “Through this project, we will strive to utilize Buan’s abundant marine tourism resources to pursue the sixth industrialization centered on maritime transportation and marine leisure, and to achieve diversification of the region.”
He added, “In addition to this project, a total project budget of 113 billion KRW has been secured for various projects selected for Gyeokpo hang, including the Gyeokpo hang maintenance project, the Clean National Fishing Port (Gyeokpo hang) pilot project, and the Byeonsan-Gung hang Fishing Village New Vitalization (Type 2) Project, which is expected to invigorate the region and yield tangible results.”
