Full-Fledged Curriculum to Begin After Opening Ceremony on March 4
Busan Naval Science and Technology High School (Principal Jeong In-sik) will open as the nation's first school dedicated to training naval non-commissioned officers.
On March 4th, at the Jang-guk Hall of Busan Naval Science and Technology High School, an event including the unveiling of the school plaque, opening ceremony, and entrance ceremony will be held with the attendance of Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan; Lee Dae-seok, Vice Chairman of the Busan City Council; Kang Jeong-ho, Commander of Naval Education Command; Kim Seong-su, Mayor of Haeundae District; naval officials; faculty; parents; and students.
The opening ceremony will include a progress report, presentation of a plaque of appreciation from the Naval Headquarters, scholarship certificate awards, congratulatory speeches and encouragement from attending guests, followed by the entrance ceremony.
In March 2024, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Naval Headquarters, and Haeundae Technical High School signed a 'Busan Naval Science and Technology High School Establishment Memorandum of Understanding' to bring about a major transformation in vocational high schools linked to the Education Development Special Zone. Through this agreement, the existing shipbuilding equipment specialized high school, Haeundae Technical High School, was converted into Busan Naval Science and Technology High School, which is now opening.
The nation's first naval non-commissioned officer training school, Busan Naval Science and Technology High School, will open.
The school offers two departments: Naval Mechanical Engineering (3 classes) and Naval Electrical and Electronics Engineering (3 classes), with 16 students per class, totaling 96 students. Among the admitted students, 84 are from Busan, and 12 are from other regions such as Daejeon, Namwon in Jeonbuk, Changwon and Gimhae in Gyeongnam.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has strived to provide the highest level of educational environment nationwide by establishing state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to train the Republic of Korea’s elite technical non-commissioned officers. Based on this excellent educational environment, the school plans to actively cooperate with the Naval Education Command and Naval Operations Command under the Naval Headquarters to provide top-level education for nurturing outstanding talents.
Additionally, graduates who pass the designated certification standards will be commissioned as naval non-commissioned officers immediately upon graduation, with opportunities for long-term service and support for skill development education, including chances to obtain professional associate and bachelor’s degrees.
Principal Jeong In-sik stated, “We will devote all efforts to overcoming challenges such as regional population aging and declining school-age population, and to nurturing excellent talents linked to the local community. Going forward, Busan Naval Science and Technology High School will become a cradle for producing outstanding naval non-commissioned officers.”
