Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province will hold a public hearing on the 'Hwaseong Special City Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Plan' at the main conference room of Hwaseong Sports Complex Main Stadium on the 5th of next month. The 'Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Plan' is the highest-level statutory plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a carbon-neutral society.
Hwaseong City has seen its population increase by more than 20% and the number of businesses surge by over 86% in the past five years, making the reduction of economic and social carbon emissions an urgent issue. In 2018, the city recorded the highest greenhouse gas emissions in Gyeonggi Province.
This public hearing is part of the planning process to present the carbon neutrality policy direction for Hwaseong Special City, providing a platform for citizens, experts, relevant departments, and stakeholders to share their opinions.
During the event, the basic plan will be explained, including ▲current status and outlook of greenhouse gas emissions ▲setting mid- to long-term reduction targets ▲sector-specific greenhouse gas reduction measures, followed by a panel discussion with experts and feedback from citizens.
Oh Je-hong, Director of the Hwaseong City Environment Bureau, said, "As abnormal climate phenomena intensify, citizens' interest and concerns about carbon neutrality are growing," adding, "Through this public hearing, we will gather diverse opinions to prepare a better basic plan for carbon neutrality."
