Targeting 400 Wh per Kilogram
Chinese state media China Central Television (CCTV) reported on the 26th (local time) that electric vehicles equipped with all-solid-state batteries are expected to be mass-produced in China by 2030.
The China Electric Vehicle 100 Association (hereafter 100 Association), which includes Chinese electric vehicle industry and government officials, stated, "Last year was a milestone year for all-solid-state batteries in China. Since the second half of last year, the number of all-solid-state battery patents filed by China has surged to three times that of Japan."
The 100 Association added, "Major domestic automotive battery companies are focusing on all-solid-state battery technology using sulfide as the main electrolyte," and "the goal is to achieve a battery energy density of 400 watt-hours (Wh) per kilogram (kg)."
CCTV cited experts from the 100 Association who said the industrialization of all-solid-state batteries is expected between 2027 and 2028, and explained that "mass production will be possible by 2030."
All-solid-state batteries are next-generation batteries that replace conventional liquid electrolytes with solid ones to improve safety, energy density, and charging speed. Using solid electrolytes reduces the risk of leakage caused by external temperature changes or shocks, lowering the probability of fire and increasing driving range.
Ouyang Minggao, Vice Chairman of the 100 Association and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, predicted, "The market share of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology will rapidly increase in the new energy vehicle market," forecasting that the market share of PHEV technology will reach about 40% this year. He added that the market share of pure electric vehicles will fall to around 50%.
Furthermore, CCTV reported, "Currently, many Chinese automobile companies are adopting DeepSeek," and "this has given domestic companies confidence that they can maintain a leading position in the field of intelligent driving."
