This agreement focuses on revitalizing regional railway tourism through the development of tourism products linked to the Donghae Line railway connecting Busan and Gangneung, and the deployment of historical tourism guides.
Accordingly, Yeongdeok-gun will implement customized tourism marketing projects such as supporting vehicle rental costs for group tours of 15 or more railway users and operating tourist taxis, while Korail Daegu Headquarters will contribute to Yeongdeok-gun’s railway tourism leap by promoting various fare discount measures and active publicity.
Won Hyung-min, head of Korail Daegu Headquarters, said, “Since the first opening this year, 650,000 people have used the Donghae Line railway,” adding, “We will work even harder with Yeongdeok-gun to revitalize the region by expanding railway demand.”
County Governor Kim Kwang-yeol expressed, “We expect that this agreement will provide new momentum for Yeongdeok-gun’s tourism industry,” and stated, “We will join forces with Korail Daegu Headquarters to establish ourselves as a leading city in East Coast railway tourism.”
Prior to the agreement, Korail Daegu Headquarters plans to add five temporary stops of the ITX-Ma-eum train at Ganggu Station during the Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival, which will be held from the 14th of next month, to ensure visitors experience no inconvenience during the festival period.
Additionally, Yeongdeok-gun intends to operate shuttle buses running to the festival site timed with all stops at Ganggu Station, allowing visitors to enjoy the festival conveniently.
