Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Cho Sangrae) held the "2nd Briefing Session on Discovering Projects for 2026 National and Provincial Budget Requests" at the county office's Sotaengmaru on the 24th to proactively respond to securing national and provincial funding.
Presided over by Governor Cho Sangrae, the briefing session discussed strategies to secure national and provincial budgets and identify key projects to stabilize the local economy, despite challenging revenue conditions such as a decrease in local allocation tax.
The session covered 56 key projects with a total budget request of 271.6 billion KRW from national and provincial funds, and for 2026, a budget support request of 80.8 billion KRW was proposed.
Among these, 32 are new projects, including the creation of a Smart Agriculture Promotion District, improvement of the Gokseong Public Sewage Treatment Facility’s Total Phosphorus Treatment Facility, and construction of a new Hogokgyo Bridge on the national river (Seomjingang). The remaining 24 are continuing projects, such as the establishment of an Ecological Forest Tourism Garden in Gokseong-gun, construction of infrastructure for Seomjingang Fairy Tale Village, and the construction of the Samgi Public Sewage Treatment Plant.
The county plans to thoroughly carry out preliminary administrative procedures such as establishing basic plans and investment reviews, further specify project plans, and from March, actively visit Jeollanam-do Province and central government ministries to secure funding on all fronts.
Governor Cho Sangrae stated, "The deterioration of finances due to reduced tax revenue is a crisis faced by all local governments nationwide. Securing stable national funding is more urgent than ever to secure growth engines for Gokseong's long-term development." He added, "Until the 2026 government budget proposal is finalized in May, I urge all departments to strengthen their arguments to persuade central ministries and approach this as if it were their own responsibility."
