Gwangyang City Choir to Hold 27th Regular Concert
Commemorating the 106th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the 80th Anniversary of Liberation
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that the Gwangyang City Choir will present its 27th regular concert, "White Roar," at 7:30 p.m. on the 27th at the Grand Performance Hall of the Gwangyang Culture and Arts Center.
This regular concert is a special performance commemorating the 106th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the 80th anniversary of Liberation. The city choir has organized an original musical composed by Heo Geoljae, the resident composer of the National Choir, to reflect on the significance of historical moments experienced by the Korean people during the Japanese colonial period and to shed new light on the value of freedom.
The performance is structured into four parts, beginning with the overture "White Roar." The Gwangyang City Choir, in collaboration with the City Korean Traditional Orchestra and the Orchestra Nuove Musiche, will reenact the moment when the 33 national representatives read the Declaration of Independence during the Japanese colonial era.
The performance will last 80 minutes, and citizens wishing to attend can do so for free on a first-come, first-served basis without prior reservation. Further details about the performance can be found in the announcements section on the Gwangyang City website.
Mayor Jung Inhwa stated, "I hope this performance will be a meaningful time to reflect on the significance of the March 1st Movement," adding, "I look forward to many citizens attending and sharing in this profound resonance."
Meanwhile, since its founding in July 2010, the Gwangyang City Choir has contributed to the development of local culture and arts by presenting performances across a wide range of genres, from classical to contemporary music. This upcoming performance is also expected to broaden the base of the local performing arts scene while conveying historical significance and deep emotion to the citizens.
