Inspection of 70 Disaster-Prone Facilities

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will conduct a safety inspection for all schools and educational institutions during the thawing season until March 14.

According to the city education office on the 24th, the inspection will focus on large-scale construction sites where work is unavoidable after the start of the semester, facilities with weakened ground due to thawing, and fire-prone facilities such as dormitories. In particular, 70 disaster-prone facilities will be inspected by a joint public-private inspection team. For some facilities, parents will also be allowed to participate.
The inspection items include the safety of temporary structures at construction sites, prevention of dust and noise, separation of construction sites from classrooms and safety of commuting routes, stability of retaining walls and cut slopes, and proper operation of fire alarms and firefighting equipment in dormitories.
Minor issues will be addressed immediately on site. In cases where immediate action is difficult, a plan will be established and the risks will be managed until they are resolved. If significant defects are found, a specialized agency will be commissioned to conduct a detailed safety inspection and take follow-up measures.
Superintendent Lee Jeongseon said, "We will do our best to ensure that students can start the new semester in a safe and pleasant environment."
