A 100-meter-tall vertical resort is set to be built in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It will be the tallest resort-function building in the world. The resort will feature various facilities that cannot be experienced in the desert, including a botanical garden, waterfalls, water slides, and swimming pools.

According to recent reports by CNN, the global resort developer Terme Group announced plans to construct a massive 100-meter-tall wellness resort called "Terme Dubai - Island in the Sky" in Dubai. The resort will be located next to the royal palace in Jabil Park. With a total construction cost of 2 billion dirhams (approximately 780 billion KRW), the project is scheduled to begin in 2026 and be completed by 2028. It will be able to accommodate 1.7 million visitors annually.

Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), the resort is a vertical structure 100 meters tall, equivalent to a 33-story apartment building, boasting the world’s tallest height among resort-function buildings. Named "Oasis in the Sky," the building is designed as a series of botanical gardens stacked like towers over a lake. It will house the world’s largest indoor botanical garden with over 200 species of plants, a waterfall pool filled with thermal and mineral water, and spaces for cultural and social events. The resort will also feature Michelin-starred restaurants, three 18-meter-high waterfalls, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools covering 4,500 square meters. Additionally, there will be 15 water slides and interactive art installations. Visitors can also experience traditional bathing cultures from around the world, including Roman baths, Turkish hammams, and Japanese onsen.

Elizabeth Diller of DS+R explained, "Each island is a space where lush indoor and outdoor plants harmonize, creating a unique atmosphere and oriented toward views of the Dubai skyline." She added, "Visitors will be immersed in unique environments featuring warmth and coolness, humidity and dryness, the intense heat of saunas and steam rooms, and the comfortable temperatures created by hot springs and mineral pools. During the day, the atmosphere will encourage contemplation and relaxation, while at night, it will come alive with music, art performances, and various events."

The resort will be enclosed by transparent exterior walls made of glass or plastic materials. The publicly released post-completion renderings show the transparent exterior walls constructed from multiple panels joined together. This design aims to maximize views and natural lighting while preventing visitors from feeling discomfort due to the hot outside air.

Environmental sustainability is also emphasized. Terme Group plans to recycle 90% of the water used in the thermal pools and supply 80% of the power for ventilation and cooling from clean energy sources. Robert Hanea, CEO of Terme Group, stated, "Dubai is a city that understands the future must be built around wellness. This will be a global model that integrates nature, water, and culture to enhance quality of life."

Dubai, home to the world’s tallest building, the 828-meter Burj Khalifa, is currently undertaking several large-scale architectural projects. The Burj Aziz, set to be the world’s second tallest building at 725 meters, is scheduled for completion in 2028. It will include apartments, hotels, and shopping malls. Aziz Development announced that Burj Aziz will hold several records, including the world’s tallest hotel lobby, nightclub, and observation deck. This year, the world’s tallest hotel, Ciel Dubai Marina, will open. Standing 365 meters tall with 82 floors, it features over 1,000 rooms and suites.
