Ulju-gun, Ulsan, is promoting the '2025 Slate Disposal Support Project' to protect the health of its residents and create a pleasant living environment.
This project aims to demolish and safely dispose of old slate roofs containing asbestos to prevent health damage caused by asbestos and protect the environment.
Asbestos is a harmful substance classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) under the World Health Organization (WHO). Inhalation of asbestos dust can cause serious health problems, including lung diseases.
In particular, rural areas with many old slate roofs are expected to see benefits such as improved aesthetics and local environment through slate roof demolition, leading to increased housing value.
Ulju-gun will support the costs of slate demolition and disposal for both residential and non-residential buildings (warehouses, livestock sheds, etc.) this year.
The support targets owners of houses and non-residential buildings with slate roofs in Ulju-gun. Vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty class will receive full support for demolition costs without any self-payment.
The support details are △ full support for vulnerable groups in residential buildings, up to 7 million KRW for general households △ for non-residential buildings (warehouses, livestock sheds, etc.), slate demolition (disposal) costs supported for demolition areas up to 200㎡ △ roof improvement (residential) support up to 10 million KRW for vulnerable groups and up to 5 million KRW for general households.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s town or township, or via fax or email. For more details, contact the Resource Sanitation Division of Ulju-gun Office.
After receiving applications, Ulju-gun plans to conduct on-site inspections and reviews to finalize the selection of support recipients.
An official from Ulju-gun stated, “The slate disposal support project is an important initiative that not only protects the health of Ulju-gun residents but also positively impacts the environment. We will continue to expand the project and strengthen support focused on vulnerable groups so that more people can benefit.”
