Life Saved by Prompt CPR by Hong Eun 2-dong Community Center Staff, Including Officer Jo Dongwoo
A heartwarming story of public officials saving a citizen who collapsed under the outdoor stairs of the community center through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is spreading and bringing joy to the community.
Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 24th that on the 5th of this month, the prompt rescue report and CPR performed by the staff of Hong Eun 2-dong Community Center saved the life of a man in his 70s, Mr. A.
Joo Dong-woo, an official at Hong Eun 2-dong Community Service Center in Seodaemun-gu, who saved a citizen's life through cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is taking a commemorative photo with Jo Jung-hoon, the head of Hong Eun 2-dong Community Service Center, and other staff members who worked together to respond to the emergency situation. At around 11:10 a.m. that day, upon hearing a resident shout, "Someone has collapsed!", the staff of Hong Eun 2-dong Community Center immediately rushed outside and approached Mr. A. He was unconscious and had collapsed under the stairs leading to the back gate of the community center.
The staff immediately called 119 and, while checking Mr. A’s consciousness, detected that he was not breathing. Accordingly, Officer Jo Dongwoo immediately began CPR. After performing CPR for about five minutes, the 119 emergency medical team arrived, and with their emergency treatment, Mr. A’s heartbeat was restored and he was transported to a nearby hospital.
The next day, Mr. A’s family visited Hong Eun 2-dong Community Center and expressed their gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the quick response in this urgent situation, we were able to save his life.” It is known that Mr. A was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and is currently receiving inpatient treatment following this incident.
District Mayor Lee Seongheon expressed his thanks, saying, “The resident who discovered the collapsed person and shouted for help, along with the community center staff who united to assist, reminded us that there is love and hope in our society,” and added, “We will continue to focus on CPR education for residents so that anyone can respond in similar situations.”
