Recognized for Technological Excellence for Two Consecutive Years Following Last Year's SBB
Samsung SDI has been recognized for its technological excellence for two consecutive years at Korea's largest battery exhibition with its ultra-high output cylindrical battery and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) introduction technology.
Samsung SDI announced on the 24th that its '50A-class ultra-high output cylindrical battery' and 'LFP+ platform material and electrode plate technology' were selected as winners of the 'InterBattery Awards 2025.' This achievement follows last year's grand innovation award for the energy storage system (ESS) product SBB (Samsung Battery Box) at the newly established 'InterBattery Awards,' marking a remarkable accomplishment for the second year in a row.
The Korea Battery Industry Association will hold 'InterBattery 2025' at COEX, Samseong-dong, for three days starting next month on the 5th. Prior to the event, products and technologies that scored highly in technological excellence, innovation, marketability, and contribution to industry development were selected and awarded the InterBattery Awards.
The '50A-class ultra-high output cylindrical battery' applies a tabless design that processes multiple tabs at the ends of the electrodes to expand the current path, achieving the industry's highest output. When applied to its main use in power tools, it can increase output by up to 40% compared to batteries of the same capacity currently used in the market, significantly improving work efficiency.
Scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year, this product not only offers ultra-high output performance but also enhances user convenience by securing fast charging and long-life characteristics. Thanks to fast charging technology, it can be charged up to 80% in just 15 minutes, and the application of new materials extends battery life.
The 'LFP+ platform material/electrode plate technology' is a solution that can improve the energy density and cell resistance of batteries using LFP (lithium iron phosphate) materials. Samsung SDI has implemented technology that blends LFP with high-nickel (High-Ni) to improve energy density by about 10% compared to conventional LFP batteries while achieving safety evaluation results equivalent to LFP. Additionally, by applying a new electrolyte additive, it suppresses side reactions on the LFP surface that occur when blending LFP and high-nickel, and uses highly conductive materials to improve the rate of increase in cell resistance.
A Samsung SDI official stated, "This award recognizes Samsung SDI's continuous innovation and challenging spirit in technology," adding, "We will proactively discover future technologies in preparation for the upcoming super cycle."
Meanwhile, at 'InterBattery 2025,' Samsung SDI plans to showcase differentiated battery technologies including the awarded products, enhanced safety prismatic batteries, next-generation all-solid-state batteries, and various applications.
