"Lee Jae-myung's Rightward Shift Aims to Cover Up Judicial Risks"
"Conservatives Must Compete for the Center to Prevent the Public from Falling for a 'New Type of Fraud'"
Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min evaluated the recent "rightward shift" of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, on the 23rd as "an attempt to cover up his own judicial risks."
Yoo posted on his social media on the same day, saying, "Recently, Lee has been insisting day after day that 'this is not a rightward shift. The Democratic Party has always been centrist conservative,'" and added, "'Conservatism means the strong do as they please. Whether it’s rational conservatism, warm conservatism, or any kind of conservatism, conservatism means not changing conservatism,' which belittles conservatism and is something former President Roh Moo-hyun, who discussed
He also analyzed, "Lee even said 'centrist + conservative,' which at least shows his intention to capture the centrist electorate," and harshly criticized, "Ignoring criticism that he has 'forgotten his fundamental roots,' he is using a shock therapy of even digging up the 'progressive family register' to erase his progressive left-wing image and shake up the political landscape."
Yoo pointed out, "As attention focuses on Lee’s rightward shift and centrist conservatism, the numerous criminal allegations and trials against Lee have disappeared from the media," and said, "'Criminal suspect Lee Jae-myung' has become faint, and 'centrist conservative Lee Jae-myung' has emerged."
He also expressed concern, saying, "If conservatives do not get their act together, they may lose not only the center but even their home turf," and warned, "It may not just be a tilted playing field, but a playing field pushed into a corner."
He continued, "Conservatives are not shameless enough to say that the People Power Party was originally 'centrist left-wing,'" and emphasized, "We must not leave the so-called conservative Lee Jae-myung alone. Conservatives must actively engage in the competition for the center now so that the public does not fall for Lee’s 'new type of fraud.'"
Earlier, Yoo harshly criticized Lee, saying, "It’s a spectacle to see him drinking kimchi soup as if he’s already become president. If he becomes president, the trial will be suspended, and if the prison sentence is confirmed after his term, is he running for office to go to jail after finishing the presidency?" and added, "Please, a decent person must become president. Is there no decent person in the Democratic Party?"
