Regarding the fire at the Banyan Tree Haeundae construction site in Busan that claimed the lives of six people, the construction company Samjeong Enterprises has issued an official apology. This comes one week after the tragedy.

On the 22nd, Samjeong stated, “Samjeong Enterprises bows its head in apology to the deceased, their bereaved families, and those injured due to the fire on the 14th that resulted in the loss of precious lives and multiple injuries.” Regarding the delay in issuing the apology one week after the incident, they explained, “From immediately after the accident, our executives and employees have visited the bereaved families to offer deep condolences and have done their utmost to provide necessary support. However, due to efforts to manage the aftermath and investigate the cause of the accident, the official apology was delayed, for which we are deeply sorry.”
They also said, “We fully acknowledge the heavy responsibility for this tragic accident and will actively cooperate with all investigations by authorities to ensure the cause is identified as soon as possible.” They added, “After a thorough investigation, we will take full responsibility for any outcomes and do our utmost to resolve the situation.” They stated, “In consultation with Busan City, we will seek the best measures for citizen safety and disaster management, and will thoroughly inspect all our construction sites nationwide to prevent any recurrence of such accidents.” They concluded, “Taking this accident as an opportunity, Samjeong Enterprises will be reborn as a new company with a transformative attitude.”
Earlier, a fire broke out at the Banyan Tree Haeundae complex resort construction site in Gijang-gun, Busan, at around 10:51 a.m. on the 14th. Although the fire was extinguished about eight hours later at 6:53 p.m., six people?two in their 40s, three in their 50s, and one in their 60s?were transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away. The Banyan Tree Haeundae Resort is a facility scheduled to open in May, with construction jointly undertaken by Samjeong Enterprises and Samjeong E&C, one of Busan’s leading construction companies established in 1985.
