Blue Cheongsong-gun, Healthy Forests and Abundant Life... Growing and Enjoying Together

Announcement of Forest Policy Direction for 2025
Cheongsong-gun to Create Valuable and Healthy Forests for All

Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, announced its forest policy direction for 2025 to create valuable and healthy forests that everyone can cultivate and enjoy together.

First, to enhance the economic and public value of forests and expand carbon sinks, the county will actively promote the establishment of economic forests and forest management projects.

This year, a total of 2.748 billion KRW will be invested to implement afforestation projects on 58 hectares and forest management projects such as large tree cultivation, public forest management, and forest fire prevention forest management on 930 hectares, aiming to strengthen the productivity and environmental functions of forests.

In addition, pine trees and king cherry trees, which represent Cheongsong, will be planted on vacant land to highlight regional characteristics and expand green spaces, creating a pleasant living environment.

Full efforts will also be made for forest fire prevention and pest control.

Through the "Green Village Without Burning Forest Fires" campaign, resident participation will be encouraged, and forest fire prevention education will be strengthened. Initial fire suppression will be enhanced by leasing forest fire-fighting helicopters and operating the golden time system, while actively utilizing specialized forest fire prevention and suppression teams and watchers to minimize forest damage.

To prevent the spread of pine wilt disease and other pests, surveillance and control teams and mobile checkpoints will be operated, and early containment will be pursued through aerial surveillance using drones.

Next, to increase income for forest owners and forestry workers, a production, processing, and distribution system for forest products will be established, and forest income projects will be supported. The Cheongsong Forest Products University will continue to operate to nurture professional foresters, and the forestry direct payment system introduced in 2022 will be used to compensate forestry workers' income. Various forest welfare services will also be provided through the expansion of forest recreation facilities, operation of forest experience centers for young children, and maintenance of hiking trails in residential areas.

A forest library will be operated within the Cheongsong Natural Recreation Forest, and efforts will be made to improve convenience for forest visitors by renovating aging facilities. Additionally, forest welfare vouchers will be provided for vulnerable groups, and forest experience programs for young children will be operated to contribute to emotional development and creativity cultivation.

To create distinctive forest landscapes, the "Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong Garden" and "Cheongsong Solbit Garden" will be operated, and flower paths and flower beds will be created along walking trails to provide healing spaces for residents.

In particular, the "Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong Garden," the largest zinnia flower garden in the country, has established itself as a representative tourist attraction of Cheongsong since its official opening in 2022 and will be open free of charge again this year.

In May, a poppy flower field will be operated, and in September, a zinnia garden will be maintained to create various seasonal landscapes. Various performances and events will be hosted to offer rest and healing spaces for tourists and local residents.

County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “We will create a valuable and healthy forest that all residents can participate in and enjoy together, making Cheongsong-gun’s forest a premium forest. Through systematic forest management, we will cultivate more beautiful and abundant forests and conserve and utilize sustainable forest resources together with local residents.”
