Rep. Jang Donghyeok: "Democratic Party Engaged in 'Impeachment-for-Term Extension' Judicial Deal for Moon Hyungbae"

Jang Donghyuk, a member of the People Power Party and former presiding judge (Boryeong·Seocheon), criticized the Democratic Party on the 19th regarding their proposal to extend the term of Constitutional Court justices, saying, "They are blatantly engaging in judicial bargaining by saying, 'We'll extend your term, give us impeachment.'"

On social media that day, Jang wrote, "The Democratic Party is repeatedly introducing bills to extend the term of Moon Hyungbae's Constitutional Court leadership," and added, "A bill has been submitted to allow Moon Hyungbae and Lee Miseon, whose terms expire on April 18, to remain in office until their successors are appointed, no matter how long it takes."

He continued, "The reason the Constitution stipulates the term of judges is to guarantee their independence," and said, "Now that the Democratic Party is trying to use even this for political gain, I am horrified to think about the state of Korea's judiciary."

Jang emphasized, "The Democratic Party's 'legislative rampage,' sparing nothing to shield Lee Jaemyung, is nothing new," and added, "If it weren't for the President's veto power, the rule of law in Korea would have degenerated into 'Myeongchijuui,' serving only Lee Jaemyung."

He continued, "The term of Constitutional Court justices is set at six years," and criticized, "Openly introducing an unconstitutional bill is tantamount to encouraging Constitutional Court justices, who should be upholding the Constitution, to commit unconstitutional acts."

Jang argued, "This is only possible because 'Father Lee Jaemyung' stands above the Constitution," and said, "The more the Democratic Party and the Constitutional Court continue this rampage, the more public distrust in impeachment trials will grow." He concluded, "If Lee Jaemyung's 'Jalsanism' is not just a clique's well-being, then the unconstitutional bill must be withdrawn immediately."
