for Future Maritime Security
Hanyang University announced on the 21st that it officially opened the "Naval Advanced Science and Technology Convergence Center" at the ERICA Campus in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, to advance the Navy's cutting-edge science and technology.

The opening ceremony was held on the 19th, attended by key figures including President Lee Ki-jung, Navy Chief of Staff Yang Yong-mo, and officials from the Navy Future Innovation Research Group. The event included the opening and plaque unveiling ceremony, an introduction to the significance of the center's establishment, and an on-site inspection.
The center aims to build a strong maritime force and innovate in the field of advanced defense technology, serving as a hub for industry-academia-research cooperation in the metropolitan area. Going forward, in collaboration with ERICA, it plans to identify requirements in ten key defense strategic technology areas, conduct joint research in Navy interest fields such as maritime and underwater surveillance and AI for manned-unmanned complex systems, and focus on nurturing specialized personnel in naval advanced science and technology.
President Lee Ki-jung of Hanyang University stated, "With the opening of this center, we will closely cooperate with the Navy to accelerate research on advanced technologies and talent development for future maritime security," adding, "We will seek technological advancement together with the Navy by utilizing the university's original technologies."
Navy Chief of Staff Yang Yong-mo said, "In an era of accelerating technological advancement, the proactive identification and planning of strategic technology requirements are core tasks for developing new concept weapon systems and building a strong maritime force," and added, "The opening of the Advanced Science and Technology Convergence Center is a very meaningful achievement."
