On the 17th, Tanayong Wongtrakool shared a photo on his social media (SNS) taken with Kim Sae-ron during the filming of The Man from Nowhere and said, "I offer my deepest condolences." He added, "I also send my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family. Rest in peace, Kim Sae-ron."
Tanayong Wongtrakool played the role of 'Ramrowan,' a foreign assassin, in The Man from Nowhere. He has appeared in Thai films such as The Curse of the Sun and Khun Sek, and is regarded as a national actor in Thailand.
The Man from Nowhere tells the story of Tae-sik (Won Bin), a former special agent who comes out of hiding to rescue his neighbor’s kidnapped little girl, So-mi (Kim Sae-ron), from a criminal organization. Tanayong Wongtrakool left a strong impression by discarding his gun and fighting Tae-sik as a fighter in their confrontation.
Director Lee Jeong-beom reportedly flew directly to Thailand to cast Tanayong Wongtrakool after being impressed by his performance in Junji Sakamoto’s Children of the Dark.
Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her home in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at around 4:54 p.m. on the 16th. She was 25 years old. According to police investigations, no signs of external intrusion or criminal suspicion were found.
Kim Sae-ron gained attention as a child actress in The Man from Nowhere (2010) and remained active after becoming an adult. However, she faced severe criticism after causing a drunk driving accident in May 2022, which effectively halted her acting career. Last year, it was reported that Kim Sae-ron was working at a caf? due to financial difficulties.
Foreign media outlets described Kim Sae-ron’s passing as "a tragedy in the high-pressure Korean entertainment industry." The New York Times (NYT) stated, "The Korean entertainment industry has been criticized for harming the mental health of rapidly rising stars," adding, "Experts say that a celebrity’s popularity often depends on an impeccable reputation." CNN noted, "Recent deaths of young K-pop idols and K-drama stars have highlighted concerns about mental health and pressure in the Korean entertainment industry."
