During the plenary session of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee on the same day, Acting Commissioner Lee responded to Basic Income Party lawmaker Yong Hye-in’s question, “How will you handle the vacancy if Acting Commissioner Park is converted to a suspect?” by saying, “He has only been questioned as a witness.”

When asked whether he personally made the decision to recommend Acting Commissioner Park, he said, “Considering various factors, I judged him to be the right person.”

Lawmaker Yong emphasized, “Instead of efforts to reform the police organization, they promoted someone suspected of involvement in an insurrection,” and added, “The necessary personnel measures now are to exclude those involved in the insurrection and conduct a thorough investigation.”

Earlier, controversy arose when Park Hyun-soo, Director of the Police Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was appointed as the Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner on the 7th. Acting Commissioner Park was appointed to key positions such as the Personnel Verification Team of the Presidential Transition Committee and the National Situation Room of the Presidential Office under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, as well as Director of the Police Intelligence Bureau at the National Police Agency and Director of the Police Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It was revealed that Acting Commissioner Park had multiple phone calls with Police Commissioner Jo Ji-ho, former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, and Police Commissioner Im Jeong-ju shortly after the declaration of martial law.
