Hyundai Motor Company's high-performance brand N has set a new standard for electric vehicle performance in Japan.
On the 15th, Hyundai announced that the Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Spec) vehicle recorded a lap time of 57.446 seconds in the 'Racing Car & Slick Tire Class' at 'Attack Tsukuba 2025,' held at the Tsukuba Circuit Course 2000 in Japan, setting a new electric vehicle record.
This is more than 2 seconds faster than the 59.598 seconds recorded by the 1033PS Tesla Model S Plaid at last year's 'Attack Tsukuba 2024.'
It has also been about seven months since the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec vehicle set the production electric vehicle record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb held in the United States in June 2024.
The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is designed to realize the maximum performance of the Ioniq 5 N with minimal changes necessary for racing while maintaining key production car components such as the body, motor, and battery.
The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec improved the combined output to 687PS by increasing the rear motor output by 37 horsepower (PS) through software tuning. It is equipped with new shock absorbers, motorsport-spec brakes, 18-inch diameter Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires, and designed with a high downforce aerodynamic package.
Japanese popular racer Nobuteru Taniguchi, who collaborated with Hyundai in this racing event, commented, "The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec excelled in cornering and braking, and despite its high power, it was well-controlled, allowing me to push it to the limit without any unease."
Joonwoo Park, Executive Director of Hyundai N Management Division, said, "This new record is proof of Hyundai's excellent electric vehicle technology," adding, "Hyundai N will continue to strive through various challenges to ensure that high-performance electric vehicles can integrate more naturally into global car culture."
