'Citizen-Perceived Life-Centered Project Report Meeting' Held
Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Actively Discover Policies That Benefit Citizens' Daily Lives"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will promote 121 life-centered projects this year, including apartment defect prevention.
On the 17th, Yongin City held a 'Citizen-Perceived Life-Centered Project Report Meeting' chaired by Mayor Lee Sang-il at the city hall video conference room to prepare these measures. The 'Citizen-Perceived Life-Centered' projects were introduced after the launch of the 8th popular election term and are now in their third year.
This year, the city will carry out a total of 121 life-centered projects across 11 fields: ▲14 projects for citizen convenience ▲13 for education, culture, and sports ▲8 for system improvement ▲11 for welfare ▲7 for health ▲12 for business and economy ▲9 for environment ▲9 for safety ▲12 for urban and leisure ▲9 for semiconductors ▲17 for transportation.

In particular, this year the city will newly implement system improvements such as ▲improving the management system for urban development project infrastructure ▲establishing standard guidelines for building permits ▲developing management measures to prevent defective construction in apartment complexes ▲online services for drinking water quality inspection analysis ▲integrated review for rapid redevelopment and reconstruction projects.
Among these, the management measures to prevent defective construction in apartment complexes were prepared to prevent defects like those recently exposed at 'Yongin Gyeongnam Honorsville Decent' in Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, and to improve issues in the pre-inspection system conducted before move-in.
The city will also install 'individual food waste measuring devices (RFID)' targeting about 110,000 households in Suji and Heungdeok districts, as well as multi-family and multiplex housing, which previously used automatic collection facilities, to transform the food waste collection system.
Mayor Lee said, "This year, we will continue to discover many projects that help citizens' daily lives and resolve inconveniences and carry them out steadily," adding, "Please ensure that the life-centered projects, which have received good evaluations so far, are promoted without any setbacks by investing more budget."
Here is an introduction to Yongin City's life-centered projects by field for this year.
Securing School Commute Safety and Improving Road Conditions... Expanding Citizen Safety Infrastructure
The transportation sector's life-centered projects include creating a safe school commute environment, improving the traffic system, and alleviating traffic congestion in habitual bottleneck areas.
From this month until December, sidewalks will be installed in sections without pedestrian paths around 'Yongin Daum School,' and the rear gate bridge of Mohyeon Elementary School will be expanded. The school route for Yeongmun Middle School will undergo road expansion and installation of pick-up/drop-off bays by June. A pedestrian bridge allowing two-way traffic will be installed at Giheung Elementary School.
At the folk village entrance intersection in Bora-dong, Giheung-gu, and the Seokseong-ro entrance in Dongbaek-dong, one additional lane will be expanded to ease vehicle congestion, and three urban planning roads in Suji-gu, including the area around the Gogi Senior Citizens Center, will be completed within the year.
To resolve bus service reductions caused by a shortage of transportation workers, the city will designate training institutions and expand training projects. Treatment improvement allowances will be provided to workers, and routes with significant reductions will be gradually increased. Five locations, including Singal Station bus stop, will have additional 'smart bus stops' installed.
Three locations, including Myeongji Intersection, will have lanes expanded, and four locations, including Kyunghee University Intersection, will secure lanes by adjusting the road surface. Two locations, including Jeondae Intersection, will have roundabouts installed, and traffic safety facilities will be installed at Jukjeon Intersection, where accidents frequently occurred. Roads around Sohyeon Elementary School and two other locations will be repaved to improve road conditions.
To prevent fire accidents, the city will implement projects such as 'mandatory electric vehicle fire prevention facilities at building permits,' 'support for residential fire safety equipment for fire-vulnerable households,' and 'installation of fire hydrants in fire-prone areas.' The city will also carry out maintenance projects for pedestrian bridges on roads that were safety blind spots and small parks' bridges. Projects to install 'heatwave reduction facilities' in preparation for heatwaves and a pilot project to install 'women's safety screens in public restrooms' for crime prevention will also be promoted.
Expanding Care for Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups
The city operates the 'Elderly Alone Minor Repair Service' started last year and the 'Elderly Accompaniment Service,' which accompanies elderly people who have difficulty handling tasks such as payments alone at hospitals. This project, targeting 500 households of seniors aged 70 and over, is the first in the nation to provide accompaniment services using vehicles.
To improve convenience for mobility-impaired individuals, the project supporting 'customized ramp installation' for small facilities such as restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, and pharmacies will continue this year. Previously, the city completed ramp installations at 145 locations from 2023 through last year and plans to install ramps at 65 additional locations this year.
The 'Youth Life Worry Resolution Support Project' and 'Our Neighborhood Youth Space Operation Project,' which help young people with job searching and capacity building, are also considered life-centered projects supporting youth employment and empowerment.
The 'Yongin Silver Care Sooni' project, which integrates artificial intelligence technology into welfare policies for the elderly, will expand its scale this year and add a system to detect abnormal behavior patterns of seniors, providing services to about 4,000 people.
Expanding Resident Rest and Cultural Spaces
As part of the Jungang-dong urban regeneration project, the 'Open Community Plaza with Residents' project is underway. In Kimryangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu, a 455㎡ multipurpose plaza will be created to provide a resting space. The 'Yongin Natural Recreation Forest' will have its walking paths maintained to allow easy access for mobility-impaired individuals such as the disabled, elderly, and infants.
A 210-meter section of the walking trail will be installed from Namsan 2 Bridge to the confluence with Tancheon to connect the Mabukcheon Stream trail to Tancheon. In nine locations including Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu, a total of 35,000㎡ of idle land will be developed into public forests.
Customized basic semiconductor education programs will be operated for middle and high school students in the region, and the 'Youth Cultural House Operation Project,' utilizing Heungdeok, Dongcheon, and Yurim Youth Cultural Houses, will be promoted as well.
The 'Reading Senior Centers Support Project,' which visits senior centers to provide e-book reading, education, and senior picture books, and the outdoor reading program 'Booknic in the Park' will expand from one to four locations. Barefoot trails will be additionally created in 26 locations including Giheung Reservoir walking trail and Gogi Neighborhood Park.
