The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Kim Byung-sam) announced on the 17th that despite global economic uncertainties and domestic economic slowdown, it has established the ‘2025 Comprehensive Investment Attraction Plan’ aiming to attract investments totaling 1.09 trillion KRW, including 100 million USD (140 billion KRW) in foreign investment and 950 billion KRW in domestic investment, and has launched full-scale investment attraction activities.
To promote the 2025 comprehensive investment attraction plan, an investment attraction strategy meeting was held on the 11th with 16 participants including Commissioner Kim Byung-sam and investment attraction experts (PMs), where practical investment attraction execution plans were discussed and the entire organization’s capabilities were focused to maximize performance.
In particular, the plan aims to strengthen the attraction of companies centered on advanced industries and prepare differentiated strategies so that global companies can establish themselves as optimal investment destinations. At the same time, it plans to create a sustainable investment foundation and systematically promote investment attraction publicity strategies to enhance competitiveness.
To this end, four core strategies have been established: focused attraction of three key strategic industries (ICT·Robotics, Medical·Bio, Future Mobility), discovery and attraction of reshoring companies, strengthening customized investment attraction (IR) activities, and advancement of performance-oriented investment strategies.
First, priority will be given to attracting investments in the three core strategic industries of DGFEZ: ICT·Robotics, Medical·Bio, and Future Mobility industries.
In the ICT·Robotics sector, centered on Suseong Alpha City, designated as a National Digital Innovation Zone and Opportunity Development Special Zone, efforts will be made to attract domestic and foreign advanced companies by actively utilizing tax benefits and regulatory relaxations. Additionally, related to the establishment of the National Robot Test Field, attracting AI-based robotics companies will be intensified.
In the Medical·Bio sector, promising companies will be discovered based on specialized infrastructure and anchor companies, and investment attraction will be promoted by linking the Shinseo Advanced Medical District (medical devices·new drugs) and Pohang Convergence Technology Industrial District (bio).
In the Future Mobility sector, based on last year’s investment attraction achievements of 300 billion KRW in the automotive parts and materials field by companies such as Geumchang Co., Ltd. and Ajin Industry Co., Ltd., efforts will be made to respond to changes in the future car industry by utilizing the Pohang Secondary Battery National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex and Daegu Motor Small and Medium Parts Specialized Complex, and to attract electric vehicle and secondary battery manufacturing companies.
Second, with the recent expansion of support and incentives for reshoring companies in advanced strategic technology fields, the demand for domestic return of companies that had expanded overseas is increasing. In response, DGFEZ plans to strengthen customized support strategies and actively induce promising companies to invest in DGFEZ.
Third, to further expand domestic and foreign investment attraction, overseas exhibitions linked with KOTRA will be actively utilized, and customized IR such as investment briefing sessions inviting target companies will be promoted. Furthermore, by pioneering new investment channels and strengthening post-investment management, the plan aims to promote actual investment inflow and advance a performance-centered investment attraction strategy.
Lastly, DGFEZ will make every effort to become a global investment hub by expanding the DGFEZ area, strengthening the innovation capabilities of resident companies, creating a sustainable investment foundation, and concurrently implementing customized publicity strategies tailored to investment targets.
Commissioner Kim Byung-sam of DGFEZ stated, “This year, we will focus not only on simple investment attraction but also on creating a sustainable industrial ecosystem,” adding, “Through customized corporate support and strategic investment attraction activities, we will do our best to establish DGFEZ as the most attractive investment destination for companies.”
