Ahead of Asan Mayoral By-election, Ruling and Opposition Parties Issue Statements Demanding Cancellation of Nominations

Ahead of the Asan mayoral by-election scheduled for April 2, both the ruling and opposition parties have issued statements demanding the cancellation of the rival party's preliminary candidate nomination.

On the 17th, the People Power Party released a statement demanding the cancellation of the nomination of Oh Sehyun, the Democratic Party candidate, citing that he had been reported to the police on charges of soliciting a company, through his secretary, to hire his brother-in-law during his tenure as Asan mayor.

The People Power Party stated, "The Democratic Party pushed ahead with the nomination even though its own members requested disciplinary action from the Ethics Tribunal," and insisted, "Candidate Oh must clearly explain the allegations of employment corruption and voluntarily withdraw."

The Democratic Party also issued a statement on the 14th, pointing out, "The People Power Party applied the principle of 'not nominating a candidate in the event of its own fault' in the Guro-gu mayoral by-election, but violated this in the Asan mayoral by-election by nominating Jeon Mankwon as their candidate."

The Democratic Party stated, "The Asan mayoral by-election alone will cost 2.87 billion won, which will ultimately become a burden on the citizens," and criticized, "It is shameless for the party responsible for causing the by-election to nominate a candidate."
