"Let's Support Local Alley Shops"... Eunpyeong-gu Launches Campaign

Promoting Local Eateries on Social Media
and Encouraging Prepayment Initiatives

Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 17th that over 1,500 employees from the district office and community service centers, along with members of professional organizations, are participating in a ‘Traditional Market and Shopping District Usage Campaign’ to revitalize the frozen local economy by using nearby traditional markets.

As the impeachment crisis triggered by the emergency martial law situation caused unprecedented difficulties for the neighborhood economy, public officials and the local community have come together to support each other. District office employees and members of professional organizations are voluntarily participating in the campaign by using local commercial areas and promoting them on social networking services (SNS).

According to the district, each department has linked with traditional markets such as Bulgwang Food Alley, Daejo Market, and Jeil Market, while community service centers have connected with shopping districts within their respective neighborhoods to carry out the campaign. Participants post reviews on official or personal SNS accounts to encourage the revitalization of traditional markets and neighborhood commercial areas within the district.

In particular, the community service centers promoted the ‘Overcoming the Livelihood Cold Wave Prepayment Challenge: Please Take Care of Our Neighborhood Shops’ campaign in various formats tailored to the characteristics of each neighborhood. Using a relay format where participants nominate the next participant, the campaign encouraged active participation not only from employees but also from members of professional organizations.

A merchant at a traditional market said, “It is a great encouragement during difficult times that district employees and officials come to visit us,” adding, “We merchants will also do our best to attract more people to the market.”

District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung stated, “Revitalizing neighborhood commercial areas is the first step to saving the Republic of Korea, which is currently facing difficulties,” and added, “I hope Eunpyeong’s positive influence spreads to other regions as well.”
