According to reports from The Jerusalem Post and The Times of Israel on the 16th (local time), 2000-pound (lb) MK-84 general-purpose bombs made in the United States have been delivered to Israel.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, a military ship carrying about 1,800 U.S.-made MK-84 bombs arrived at the Ashdod port the previous night, and the bombs were soon transferred to an Israeli Air Force base.
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said, "The military supplies sent by the Trump administration are important assets to the Israeli military and once again prove the strong bond between Israel and the United States," adding, "We are grateful for the unwavering support."
Former U.S. President Joe Biden delayed the delivery of bombs last May, fearing that Israel, which was at war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas, might attack densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip, which drew criticism from Israel.
However, shortly after Donald Trump took office in January this year, the U.S. resumed the shipment of bombs. Earlier this month, President Trump announced a plan to relocate Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries and for the U.S. to take control of the area.
