The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 16th that it will conduct an emergency inspection of more than 1,000 construction sites nationwide in connection with the fire disaster at a hotel construction site in Busan.
Industrial safety and health inspectors from local employment and labor offices across the country will inspect construction sites where finishing work such as insulation installation is underway.
They will strengthen on-site patrols to guide fire hazard sites and use construction site networks and major accident sirens to disseminate accident cases and key fire prevention inspection points. They will also check whether the safety and health management system is functioning properly.
Additionally, they will inspect whether the following are properly implemented: ▲worker training on the use of welding fire blankets and welding spatter prevention covers ▲prohibition of mixed work during fire-risk tasks ▲appropriate placement of fire watchers ▲installation of adequate fire extinguishing equipment, securing emergency evacuation routes, and conducting evacuation drills.
Furthermore, joint inspections with related agencies such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Fire Agency will also be promoted.
