Rising Interest in Pohang Filming Locations Thanks to "My Perfect Secretary"
Overseas Expos and K-Drama Themes...
Full-Scale Efforts to Attract International Tourists
Pohang City is solidifying its position as a K-drama city and plans to accelerate efforts to attract domestic and international tourists based on this foundation.
Recently, the SBS Friday-Saturday drama "My Perfect Secretary," supported by Pohang City, successfully concluded with a peak viewership rating of 12%.
This drama ranked first and second on OTT platforms such as Netflix and Wavve, gaining high popularity among domestic and international K-drama fans. In particular, the beautiful scenery of Pohang, featured in scenes where the drama’s main characters go on dates, attracted significant attention.
In episode 8, the protagonists enjoy a date at Songdo Songlim Theme Street; in episode 11, the male lead takes photos of the female lead at the Igari Anchor Observatory and proposes at the Yeonorang Seonyeo Theme Park. These scenes have led to increased inquiries about these locations, and more tourists have been visiting the drama filming sites since the drama aired.
Pohang City plans to promote the filming locations by distributing planned videos linking the drama’s making-of footage and location introduction videos, and will collaborate with travel influencers and travel communities to promote travel courses to the filming sites.
Additionally, photo zones and information boards will be installed at the filming locations to provide visitors with special memories.
Riding on the success of "My Perfect Secretary," Pohang City intends to further strengthen tourism marketing utilizing K-dramas.
Pohang has built its reputation as a tourist city through popular dramas such as "When the Camellia Blooms" (2019) and "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" (2021). The filming location of "When the Camellia Blooms," Guryongpo Japanese House Street, has become a nationwide tourist attraction, while Cheongha Gongjin Market, the filming site of "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha," remains highly popular among Southeast Asian tourists.
Especially this year, with the "APEC Summit" and the "Year of Visit Gyeongbuk," many foreigners are expected to visit Pohang, prompting plans to further strengthen overseas marketing targeting foreign visitors.
The city plans to actively promote the drama filming locations at overseas expos and develop a drama tour themed "My Perfect Pohang Trip," conducting briefing sessions and fam tours for Japanese travel agencies, among other strategies to attract international tourists.
Park Sang-jin, Director of the Tourism Convention City Promotion Headquarters, stated, “We will pursue aggressive marketing to attract many domestic and international visitors to the beautiful city of Pohang,” adding, “In particular, we will make greater efforts to attract foreign tourists with the goal of reaching 10 million tourists.”
