Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, visited the World Cup Stream barley planting site at 8:30 a.m. on February 15 to check the progress.

Mapo-gu renovated a 1.56 km section of the World Cup Stream from Jungdonggyo Bridge to the confluence with Seongsan Stream last year, and is currently planting barley along the World Cup Stream to offer residents the greenery of nature this spring.

On this day, Mayor Park Gang-su personally inspected the barley planting status and urged the relevant departments to manage it thoroughly. He also ordered frequent inspections of the environment around the World Cup Stream walking trail.

After the inspection, Mayor Park Gang-su said, “When the warm spring comes, the World Cup Stream will become a famous spot for barley,” adding, “We will work harder to make the World Cup Stream a space where nature and people breathe together.”

About 700 people, including Mayor Oh Seung-rok and senior job participants, attended the event. The ceremony proceeded with safety education, opening and national anthem, introduction of guests, mayor’s greeting, and orientation training.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Jobs lead to vitality in seniors’ lives,” and added, “We will create a senior-friendly city with high pride based on jobs that allow seniors to work healthily and actively.”

Disaster Response Capability in Dongdaemun-gu Growing Strong

Customized Education Provided by Institution on Fire Safety, Traffic Safety, Water Safety, etc.

QR Code Signboards and Large Emergency Supply Boxes Installed at Subway Stations and More

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) operates the ‘2025 Visiting Safety Education’ program and expands smart shelter guidance systems and emergency supply boxes to enhance residents’ disaster response capabilities and create a safe living environment.

The visiting safety education is a program where professional instructors visit directly and conduct experience-centered training targeting residents who need safety education, such as children, traditional market merchants, and welfare center users. This year, to increase educational effectiveness, the schedule was adjusted from July?October to April?June, and institution-specific customized education is provided based on last year’s survey results.

The education program consists of eight topics: fire safety, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), traffic safety, sexual safety, water safety, environmental safety, crowd safety, and media addiction prevention. Educational materials and tools are provided for review after the training.

In addition to the existing target groups of children and traditional market merchants, the program plans to include disability support centers, multicultural family support centers, and local self-support centers to reduce blind spots in education. Applications are accepted until March 14, and residents wishing to apply can contact the Dongdaemun-gu Safety and Disaster Division.

Meanwhile, to assist rapid evacuation in crisis situations, the district has established a smart shelter guidance system. A map showing evacuation facility locations can be viewed at a glance on the district website, and QR code signboards have been installed at elementary, middle, and high schools, subway stations, and public places to easily check nearby shelters and emergency action guidelines.

Furthermore, large emergency supply boxes were installed last year at subway stations, hospitals, and universities designated as evacuation facilities. These boxes contain first aid kits, radios, lanterns, emergency drinking water, and fire masks to be used in various disaster situations such as air raids, power outages, and fires.

Additionally, ‘customized civil defense education training’ for vulnerable groups will be expanded. The education for disability institutions, piloted last year, will be extended to ensure no residents are excluded from safety education through continuous support.

Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “We will continuously strengthen effective education and infrastructure so that residents can live more safely.”
