Ferrari CEO Visits SK Seorin Building... Strengthening Cooperation with SK On

The CEO of the Italian supercar brand Ferrari visited South Korea to strengthen cooperation with battery supplier SK On.

According to industry sources on the 14th, Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari CEO, visited the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and held a meeting with Lee Seok-hee, CEO of SK On.

This was not Vigna CEO's first visit to the SK Seorin Building. He previously visited the Seorin Building in March last year to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for battery cell technology innovation with SK On, and returned after one year.

Ernesto La Salandra, Ferrari's Chief Research and Development Officer, was also reportedly present during this visit, emphasizing the strengthening of battery cooperation between Ferrari and SK On.

Industry insiders believe that SK On batteries, which have been installed in Ferrari's plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models, are highly likely to be used in Ferrari's first electric vehicle as well.

On the 4th (local time), CEO Vigna announced during an earnings conference call that Ferrari's first electric vehicle will be unveiled on October 9.

Since 2019, SK On has been supplying batteries to Ferrari, starting with Ferrari's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model, the 'SF90 Stradale,' and its convertible version, the 'SF90 Spider.'

In 2023, Ferrari's limited edition special series 'SF90 XX Stradale' and 'SF90 XX Spider' also featured SK On batteries. The two companies have built a close cooperative relationship, applying SK On batteries to Ferrari's PHEV models '296 GTB' and '296 GTS,' released in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
