Suspect Arrested for Killing Half-Brother and Convenience Store Employee
Judge Issues Warrant Citing "Risk of Flight"
The victim of the 'Siheung stabbing incident' that occurred on the 12th, a female convenience store employee in her 20s, died after a day of treatment. The suspect in this case has been detained.
On the morning of the 14th, Judge Kang Geon, in charge of warrants at the Ansan branch of the Suwon District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing for A (35), who is accused of murder, and issued an arrest warrant. Judge Kang stated the reason for issuing the warrant was "concern over the risk of flight."

After being apprehended, A underwent a first interrogation on the same day but did not receive additional questioning the next day due to surgery on injuries sustained to his hand during the crime. Regarding the motive, A reportedly gave incoherent statements that were considered somewhat unreliable and presumed to be delusional.
A is accused of killing his half-brother B with a weapon inside their residence in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, around 6:50 p.m. on the 12th. About 10 minutes after the first crime, he allegedly went to a nearby convenience store and stabbed the female employee C, in her 20s, multiple times, resulting in her death.
C was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest and died at 8:50 p.m. on the 13th, one day after the incident. Investigations revealed that A entered the convenience store wielding the weapon and indiscriminately attacked C, who was behind the counter.
The police explained that there were two customers in the convenience store at the time, but the crime was committed so swiftly that no one was able to intervene. Responding to a witness report, the police arrested A as a suspect on the street about 50 minutes later.
A was diagnosed with a mental illness in April last year and was hospitalized for several days before being discharged. He took medication for about a month but stopped taking it on his own accord. Around the same time, A began living in the same house with his mother, stepfather, and half-brother B. The police estimate that A’s symptoms gradually worsened as he stopped receiving treatment.
A was unemployed and mostly stayed at home, with little interaction with others. It is preliminarily understood that he did not know C, the victim in this case.
A police official stated, "Not only the suspect A but also A’s mother, who was present at the scene, sustained injuries to their hands and are receiving treatment, so the investigation is not yet complete. A’s statements about the motive are inconsistent." The police plan to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances with the detained A.
