Analysis of "January 2025 Gwangju-Jeonnam Employment Trends"
Employment Rate Drops by 1.2% in Gwangju and 0.4%p in Jeonnam
Unemployment Rate Rises by 0.3% in Gwangju and 1.1%p in Jeonnam
Last month, the number of employed people in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions decreased, indicating a deterioration in employment indicators.
According to the "January 2025 Gwangju-Jeonnam Employment Trends" released by the Honam Regional Statistics Office on the 14th, the number of employed people in Gwangju was 759,000, a decrease of 17,000 (-2.2%) compared to the previous year (776,000). The employment rate was 59.4%, down 1.2%.
By industry, the number of employed increased in manufacturing by 4,000 (3.7%) and in business, personal, and public services by 2,000 (0.5%). However, it decreased in wholesale/retail, accommodation, and food services by 10,000 (-6.4%), in electricity, transportation, communications, and finance by 5,000 (-5.4%), and in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by 4,000 (-19.7%).
The unemployment rate was 4.0%, up 0.3% from a year earlier. The number of unemployed was 32,000, an increase of 2,000 compared to last year.
The economically inactive population was 487,000, an increase of 12,000 (2.2%) from the previous year. Among them, childcare accounted for 24,000, an increase of 2,000 (10.9%) compared to the same month last year. On the other hand, those engaged in housework and attending school decreased by 3,000 and 4,000, respectively.
The number of employed people in Jeonnam was 962,000, a decrease of 8,000 compared to the same month last year. The employment rate also fell by 0.4% to 63.4%.
By industry, employment increased in wholesale/retail, accommodation, and food services by 8,000 (4.5%), in construction by 6,000 (7.8%), and in electricity, transportation, communications, and finance by 3,000 (3.8%). However, it decreased in business, personal, and public services by 22,000 (-6.3%) and in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by 3,000 (-1.5%).
The unemployment rate was 5.1%, up 1.1% from a year earlier. The number of unemployed was 52,000, an increase of 11,000 compared to last year.
The economically inactive population was 504,000, a decrease of 7,000 (2.2%) from the previous year.
Among them, the numbers for attending school, housework, and childcare each decreased by 5,000.
