"My Father, a Public Official, Served for 40 Years"
Actor Park Joong-hoon revealed that his father, who participated in the Korean War, has been designated as a national merit recipient under the name of the President.
Park Joong-hoon recently shared on his social media (SNS), "I received a registration from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs," and disclosed the certificate of national merit.
Park Joong-hoon's late father, Park Il-sang, enlisted as a soldier at the age of 21 and participated in the Korean War.
Park Joong-hoon said, "(My father) passed the officer candidate exam during the war and served as a soldier for seven years until he was discharged as a captain in 1957," adding, "During the war, he was stationed as a soldier in my mother's hometown and caught the eye of my maternal grandfather, leading to their marriage." He further said, "In the end, I was born from a bond formed by the Korean War."
Park Joong-hoon recalled, "I remember my father often sharing stories about fighting against the Chinese People's Volunteer Army risking his life during my childhood," and added, "My grandmother, who sent my father to the battlefield, prayed tearfully at the temple every day."
He said, "My father worked as a public official. When he retired, he received the Order of Civil Merit, Camellia Medal," and added, "Including his military service, he devoted over 40 years to serving the country."
Park Joong-hoon wrote, "Since both my mother and father are eligible to be buried side by side at the National Cemetery, I feel like they would both be smiling from heaven," and added, "I am endlessly grateful and proud of my father. And today, I miss him so much."
