The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will newly establish 'Digital Citizenship Education' in the regular curriculum for 4th-grade elementary school students this year, and will develop and distribute new textbooks and teacher's guides.
On the 14th, the Office of Education announced that, as digital technology is widely used in educational settings, the subject was introduced to help students develop the competencies needed in a digital society.
The curriculum consists of four stages of learning: ▲exploring experiences and knowledge about digital competencies ▲conducting in-depth learning through various activities ▲utilizing digital tools and technologies and solving problems through play and activities ▲practicing in real life and self-organizing and verifying knowledge.
The Office of Education will develop and distribute introductory videos for each unit to support teachers' instruction and learning.
To support teachers in operating the Digital Citizenship Education subject, the Office plans to expand curriculum organization and operation, training on the use of textbooks, various digital citizenship education teaching and learning materials, and linked operation with 'Hi-Learning'.
Kim Tae-seok, Director of Future Education at the Office of Education, stated, "Through the establishment of the Digital Citizenship Education subject, we will support students to independently evaluate information in a digital environment and grow into ethical and responsible citizens." He added, "We will continue to develop curricula and subjects that meet the changes of the times."
