This large-scale project, which began construction in 2006, involved upgrading a total length of 15.03 km and required an investment of 234.6 billion KRW.

The four-lane expansion and paving of the local road between Yuchi and Iyang, which passes through mountainous areas, includes two tunnels, ten intersections, twenty bridges, automated snow removal equipment, and various other safety facilities, greatly enhancing user convenience and safety.

In particular, the travel time between Jangheung and Hwasun is expected to be reduced by about 30 minutes, from the previous 45 minutes to just 15 minutes, establishing this road as a key route in the central-eastern region of Jeollanam-do.

Kim Yungrok stated, "I am very pleased that the local road between Yuchi and Iyang, a long-standing wish of the residents, has opened," and added, "We will actively support the two regions to cooperate and create synergy in industry, culture, and tourism."

Meanwhile, Jeollanam-do plans to invest about 200 billion KRW annually in local road projects to ensure that travel between all regions can be completed within one hour, thereby revitalizing the local construction industry and boosting the regional economy despite challenging economic conditions.

Recently, the province has also been accelerating efforts to lay the foundation for building a "Greater Jeollanam-do" by including 20 projects in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's draft of the 6th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan (2026-2030), the national plan for the road sector.
