Jeju Waterworks and Sewerage Headquarters Selected as 'Best Water Management Institution'

Recognition for Achievements in AI-Based Smart Water Purification Plant Construction
and Modernization of Sewage Treatment Facilities

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Waterworks and Sewerage Headquarters (Director Jwa Jaebong) has been recognized for its leading efforts in sustainable water management and water resource protection in Korea, being selected as the "2025 Best Water Management Institution (Metropolitan City and Province Category)."


This award is jointly organized by the National Assembly Environment Forum, the Korean Environmental Science Association, and Water Journal, and is a prestigious honor given after evaluating water management achievements of local governments and public enterprises nationwide.


On the 13th, Jeju Province received a plaque of commendation and a signboard for the best institution at the commemorative ceremony of the "42nd 2025 First Half Comprehensive Water Technology Workshop" held at Lahan Hotel Convention Hall in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do.


This evaluation comprehensively assessed various achievements such as the supply of clean water, improvement of sewage treatment infrastructure, and the introduction of smart water management systems.


Jeju Province was recognized for establishing a sustainable water management system and contributing to the improvement of residents' living environments through achievements such as the construction of an AI-based smart water purification plant management system and integrated operation of 17 purification plants, promotion of the modernization project for Jeju Sewage Treatment Plant (total project cost 430.9 billion KRW, progress rate 26%), achieving a 93.3% sewerage supply rate and constructing 22 km of new sewer pipelines, establishing an integrated remote monitoring system for 13 small-scale sewage treatment facilities in island areas, contributing to carbon neutrality through the use of renewable energy and the introduction of demand response (DR) for power management, among others.


With this award, Jeju Province has laid the foundation to secure additional financial support by strengthening cooperation with the central government and related organizations in the future.


Jwa Jaebong, Director of Jeju Province Waterworks and Sewerage Headquarters, said, "This selection as the best institution is an achievement made together with the residents," and added, "We will continue our efforts to provide clean and safe water stably, and do our best to make Jeju Province a representative eco-friendly water management model in Korea."
