Stole a Total of 33 Million Won in Cash
A man in his 30s who habitually stole cash from coin-operated currency exchangers at coin karaoke rooms in Seoul and Busan was handed over to the prosecution while in custody.
On the 14th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul sent Mr. A, a man in his 30s, to prosecution under arrest on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (theft). Around 8 a.m. that day, as Mr. A left the Gangnam Police Station, he remained silent when reporters asked, "Why did you steal the money?" and "Do you have anything to say to the affected business owners?"
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of damaging currency exchangers at 11 coin karaoke rooms located in Seoul and Busan from the 26th of last month to the 7th of this month, and embezzling a total of 33 million won in cash.
The police received a report at 5:27 a.m. on the 2nd that 4.5 million won in cash was stolen from a currency exchanger at a coin karaoke room in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and launched an investigation.
The police identified that the coin karaoke room thefts recently occurring in Seoul and Busan were committed by the same suspect. After stakeout, they caught Mr. A at around 4:10 a.m. on the 7th stealing cash at a coin karaoke room near Sadang Station in Dongjak-gu, Seoul.
Before and after the crimes, Mr. A showed cunning by traveling nationwide to Seoul, Daegu, Busan, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Chuncheon to evade the police investigation net.
The police seized the tools used in the crimes from Mr. A as evidence, and are investigating with the possibility that Mr. A may have separately hidden cash.
A police official stated, "Crimes targeting small unmanned stores such as coin karaoke rooms are continuously occurring, so special management and caution are required."
