'Reusable Container Promotion Ordinance' Passed by Standing Committee
The Safety and Urban Committee of the Buk-gu Council in Gwangju announced on the 12th that it has passed the "Gwangju Buk-gu Support Ordinance for the Promotion of Reusable Container Usage," which was proposed by Councilor Son Hyejin (Progressive Party, Yongbong, Maegok, Ilgok, Samgak-dong).
This ordinance includes provisions such as the responsibilities of the district mayor and others for promoting the use of reusable containers, support for reusable container rental and cleaning businesses, and matters related to private consignment.
According to the ordinance, while local governments in the Gwangju area are expanding their budgets to promote the use of reusable containers this year, Buk-gu has not only failed to allocate a related budget but also has shown low performance in the use of reusable containers.
Regarding this, Councilor Son explained, "Buk-gu should not delay any further, and I proposed this ordinance to reduce resource waste by promoting and normalizing the use of reusable containers."
She added, "This ordinance is significant in that it lays the foundation for the culture of using reusable containers to expand into the private sector. I will do my best to ensure Buk-gu takes the lead in practicing carbon neutrality."
The ordinance will take effect upon approval at the plenary session on the 14th.
