Yang Bunam Says,
"Paying Salaries to Detained Police Leadership
Goes Against Common Sense"
It has been confirmed that Police Commissioner Jo Ji-ho continued to receive a monthly salary of around 13 million won even after being detained on charges of engaging in important duties related to insurrection.
According to data submitted by the National Police Agency to Yang Bu-nam, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, Commissioner Jo received 13.19 million won and 13.54 million won before tax in December last year and January this year, respectively. Commissioner Jo has maintained his position as the incumbent Police Commissioner even after being indicted and detained last month.
Former Seoul Police Commissioner Kim Bong-sik received 11.97 million won and 3.1 million won in December and January, respectively. Former Commissioner Kim was suspended from his position on December 27 last year, resulting in a 40% reduction in his salary and a 50% cut in other allowances.
Assemblyman Yang pointed out, "It is questionable whether paying monthly salaries to police leadership detained on charges of insurrection aligns with the common sense and justice of the people."
