Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, and Lynne Tracy, U.S. Ambassador to Russia, met at the Russian Foreign Ministry building on the 11th (local time), TASS news agency reported.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told TASS, "Deputy Minister Ryabkov held a scheduled meeting with the U.S. Ambassador. It was regarding the activities of foreign diplomatic missions."
Amid attention on the phone call between the leaders of the United States and Russia and negotiations over Ukraine between the two countries, this meeting drew focus.
Earlier, some media outlets speculated that Steve Witkoff, Middle East envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, might have arrived in Moscow, Russia. In response, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, said there was no related information and no plans to meet with him.
Ryabkov, who is in charge of U.S.-Russia arms control issues at the Russian Foreign Ministry, held a press conference the day before and mentioned the possibility of peace talks on Ukraine between Russia and the U.S., stating that while the Russian side is prepared, no agreement has been reached on a summit between the two leaders.
Russia has stated that communication is ongoing through various channels regarding a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Trump.
