Former Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom: "TK May Have More Wounds from Martial Law Period"... 2-Day Visit to Daegu

Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, who visited the Honam region last weekend, will visit Daegu for a 1-night, 2-day schedule starting on the 14th. With a move encompassing both Yeongnam and Honam regions, he plans to broadly listen to public sentiment and propose solutions to the impeachment trial and the regional economic crisis.

On the first day of his Daegu visit, the 14th, at 7 p.m., he will attend a screening of the movie Firefighter held at Daegu CGV Academy and participate in a cinema talk. This screening event was organized by the 'Daegu New Hope Youth Forum,' and former Prime Minister Kim, who serves as an advisor to this organization, accepted the invitation. About 90 young people from the Daegu area are expected to attend the event.

Firefighter is a film about the Hongjedong tragedy in 2001, where six firefighters died in the line of duty. The Hongjedong tragedy brought attention to the poor working conditions and treatment of firefighters, leading to increased public demand for improvements. Former Prime Minister Kim completed his term as the first Minister of the Interior and Safety under the Moon Jae-in administration at the site of the wildfire in Goseong, Gangwon Province, and was awarded the Republic of Korea Lifetime Honorary Firefighter Badge. He is known to emphasize themes such as a 'safe society,' 'state responsibility,' and 'the role of youth,' focusing on examples like the nationalization of firefighting positions and the opening of the National Fire Agency Research Institute, which were promoted during his tenure as Minister of the Interior and Safety.

On the 15th, he will attend a meeting with regional chairpersons of the Democratic Party of Korea’s Daegu City Party. In 2016, Kim was elected as a member of the 20th National Assembly representing Daegu Suseong-gu Gap district as a member of the Democratic Party of Korea. He plans to encourage the regional chairpersons who are striving for changes in public opinion in Daegu and to listen more closely to the voices of Daegu, known as the heart of conservatism.

Before his schedule in Daegu, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said, “Daegu and Gyeongbuk are places where pride from leading South Korea’s industrialization coexists with the shadows of a declining regional economy. There will be more wounds in the political situation leading to martial law and impeachment.” He then assessed, “The change in Daegu, the heart of conservatism, will hasten the restoration of constitutional order. The role of Daegu citizens is also important in preventing the People Power Party from drifting toward the far right.”
