KOSDAQ Closes Lower
Falls Below 750 Level
The KOSPI closed at the 2540 level, rising 0.7% thanks to joint buying by foreign and institutional investors. Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ once again failed to hold above the 750 level by the end of the trading session.
On the 11th, the KOSPI ended trading at 2539.05, up 0.71% from the previous day. Despite U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policy tightening on that day, the market closed higher due to joint buying by foreigners and institutions. They net purchased 143.3 billion KRW and 245.2 billion KRW respectively, while individual investors net sold stocks worth 473.7 billion KRW.
Almost all sectors rose. The transportation equipment and parts sector saw the largest increase at 2.82%. Pharmaceuticals (1.89%), metals (1.37%), construction (1.18%), general services (1.13%), and machinery and equipment (1.09%) also rose more than 1%. Medical and precision instruments (-0.82%) and textiles and apparel (-0.76%) declined.
Among the top 10 market capitalization stocks, upward trends prevailed. Samsung Biologics recorded the largest gain at 3.8%, followed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (1.6%) and SK Hynix (0.8%). LG Energy Solution (-1.0%), Kia (-0.8%), and KB Financial Group (-0.8%) declined.
The KOSDAQ closed at 749.59, down 0.01% from the previous day. Although it rose to the 754 level during the session, it ultimately failed to maintain the 750 level. The last time the KOSDAQ closed above 750 was on November 5 of last year, at 751.81.
This was due to both foreign and institutional investors selling stocks. They net sold 17.9 billion KRW and 31.1 billion KRW respectively. Only individual investors net purchased 70.2 billion KRW.
Sector performance was mixed. Entertainment and culture (2.79%), publishing and media reproduction (2.23%), metals (1.17%), and machinery and equipment (1.14%) rose more than 1%. Meanwhile, general services (-1.80%), other manufacturing (-0.94%), and non-metallic minerals (-0.89%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, only Rainbow Robotics (5.8%) and Lino Industrial (0.4%) rose. Rigachem Bio (-5.3%), Alteogen (-3.5%), Classys (-3.0%), Samchundang Pharm (-2.4%), and EcoPro (-0.8%) fell. EcoPro BM closed at the same price as the previous day.
